Three Kings Day to See Over 100 Families Receiving Gifts – and the Launch of “Healthy Mission Hill”
Sociedad Latina to host 17th annual community celebration on Saturday, January 5
Where: Mission Hill Church, 1545 Tremont Street in Roxbury, on Mission Hill
When: Saturday, January 5, 2007, 10 AM - 12 PM
Who: Boston families, Mayor Thomas Menino, Sociedad Latina and others
What: Based on a rich Latin American and Caribbean holiday tradition of gift-giving and family time, Sociedad Latina will host hundreds of children from low-income families at their 17th annual Three Kings Day event on Saturday, January 5. This year’s event will also feature the launching of “Healthy Mission Hill,” a partnership with both Longwood Medical Area institutions and community groups that will work to make Mission Hill a healthier neighborhood.
After breakfast, families and youth will enjoy workshops and a presentation of the Three Kings story by Sociedad Latina youth. The celebration also brings together local legislators and politicians who present families with gifts. This year, Mayor Thomas Menino, State Representatives Liz Malia and Jeffrey Sanchez and City Councilor Michael Ross will attend the event to meet local families.
Based in Roxbury’s Mission Hill, Sociedad Latina works together with Latino youth and families in the Boston area. In 2008, the organization will celebrate 40 years of working to create new generations of Latino leaders by offering programs that nurture the inherent strengths and capabilities of youth, instill a sense of cultural and personal pride, and offer a place for youth to speak and be heard.
