Viva Nuestra Cultura! Event #2: United Voices

Salsa Workshop and Live Concert by Matthew Sanchez, “El Bebe de la Salsa”

Thursday, September 26
5:30-7:30 pm
Location: Tobin K-8 School
Guest Artist: Matthew Sanchez

United Voices will be co-hosted by Sociedad Latina and the Tobin K-8 School. Leading up to Latino Heritage Month, Tobin teachers taught lessons on Latino culture and history, working with students to create poems, visual art projects, and essays.  Students of all grade levels in the school interviewed family members to learn about their histories and were encouraged to reflect on their own history in connection with the celebration.

The evening will feature a live salsa concert by Matthew Sanchez y su Orquesta, with salsa instruction and spoken word pieces by students of the Tobin School.   Please join us and visit our Student Exhibits that evening featuring poetry, art projects, and writing reflecting Latino culture and history. With support of Sociedad Latina’s Visual Arts team and the Museum of Fine Arts, participants can also create their own Identity Tile to add to the new school mural.  Health activities and a cooking demonstration will also be held during the evening with a healthy dinner.

Featured Artist Matthew Sanchez, "El Bebe de la Salsa," leads a 10-piece salsa band filled with energy, youthful sound, and a true passion for salsa music. Majority of band members have attended Berkley Music of College.

Matthew Sanchez has been singing salsa music for over 10 years, playing in venues around New England.  Matthew lived in NYC where he was lead vocalist for Grupo Arcano (a well known salsa band from Brooklyn, NY). From Worcester, MA, Sanchez vents in the NYC, RI, FL, MA, and PR areas.has shared the stage with artists such as Victor Manuelle, Lalo Rodriguez and Tony Vega.
